Sorry it's been awhile!
So we went to Merlin, the newly renovated lounge/bar and had champagne with Nathan. Then we walked around the square a bit and then back to merlin, where we met up with the guys. We had a few drinks, and katy, Kelley, and I went back home around 12:30…early I suppose.
On Thursday, I had a few classes…they were interesting? I had Italian, then a break from 10- 3:30…like always I guess. Then I had history and culture of food ( or whatever that class is) and then American foreign policy with Europe since WWII…which is very boring. I was considering dropping that and picking up fresco painting..but the 46euro book I bought for American foreign policy is not returnable, damn. After class, I ran home and showered, because the guys were coming over for dinner. For lunch we had gone to the American bar and grill…where I got a salad for 10euro, remind me not do to that again.
So I showered and then we all helped making dinner. Sara had made chocolate mousse cups, and the rest of us pitched in to make French fries , salad, and home-made macaroni and cheese! It was a four cheese ordeal…it was fantastic!
Nathan came with some wine, and then the other guys trickled in around 8:30, 9 (cause that's how they do it in Italy). We had so much food, and it was really good. Can you tell I was proud of us? And it was good that they guys liked it too…all the food went! We socialized for a bit in our apartment and then went to Merlin. It was not very bumpin so we had a few drinks on the house, and went to eden. It was basically just the 16 or so of us there…but it was a blast! I wound up getting Kit's number at Merlin. Kit is the femal bartender that works at Eden and knows all the guys. She is from London and had been here for a year and a half now? She leaves this Thursday for London again so she can go back and study… I am very upset that she is leaving. We told her we would take her out this upcoming Wednesday.
After eden, we went to domus, the local dance place…and had a lot of fun dancing, and learning how to dance like the Italians…no techno moves yet though I must admit. Hopefully we will go to redzone soon and I will pick up some sick ones there.
The guys walked us home kind of late and we went to bed.
On Friday, we woke up at like 9 to get our permits of stay. After that, I ran home, showered, packed, and met Sarah Morales, Chelsea, Katy, and Megan at the train station. I took the mini-metro by myself…I must say I am becoming like an actual local around here (minus the fact that I got lost getting to the mini-metro and didn't know how to work the machine to buy my ticket).
The 5 of us took 7 trains and 8 hours to get to cinque terre…which should have been 4 trains and 6 hours. But in anycase, we got there and checked in with Estella who showed us to our apartment style hostel. We cleaned up and went to dinner, where I got pasta with salmon. We were so tired that we just sat around, I drank a tea, and we went to bed.
On Saturday we woke up at 9 to hear it raining outside. But we were troopers, and geared up to hike cinque terre. We started in RIomaggiore, where we were staying, and hiked 5 hours through Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and ended in Monterosso. It was so beautiful, and I have 300 pictures to prove it. We stopped in vernazza for foccia for lunch. It was cloud for most of the journey which was good for hiking. The sun came out as we reached monterosso, and we put our bathingsuits on and enjoyed the beach. We had dinner there. I had pesto lasagna because pesto originated in cinque terre…where better to have it. We then trained back to riomaggiore…after getting on the wrong train again. Chelsea, sarah, and I should not be in charge of deciding train things.
I showered and we walked around riomaggiore that night. Getting back into our hostel, katy broke the key in the door. So we called estella. Het husband put a wooden latter on the stone steps, bracing one of the begs under a rock and some cardboard, and he climbed up the creaking latter and into the window. What an adventure it was. we went directly to bed.
On Sunday, we woke up, got breakfast at the same place we had eaten most of our meals and walked around riomaggiore. We sat by the coast and enjoyed the weather. I had pesto pizza for lunch and then we got on the correct trains back home. I got back to Perugia around 9, and was very excited to see my roommates. I had some dinner, and a few of us went out for hot chocolate, because it dropped 20 degrees here! It is actually fall here now!
On Monday, I had class, Italian, photography, and history of Christianity. I am excited about all of them. Last night I fried up some zucchini, onions, peppers, and eggplant, and cooked a piece of chicken for myself…I think I am a good cook. Kit texted me and said that there was an international day at merlin and wanted to know if we were going.
So we did our homework, and went to merlin for the night…it was bumpin last night…let me tell you.
Today is Tuesday. I went to Italian, and am sitting around for food and culture. We went out for coffee. I am going to finish blogging, shower, do some homework, and go to the center. Last year a study abroad student was murdered in Perugia, and the trail starts today, so we want to see what that is all about. Tonight we have a lesson about the apertivo with zack, a guy who works at umbra. He is going to teach us about the drinks Italians have before dinner. That should be very interesting. Then I am planning on coming home, doing homework and laundry, and getting my life in order.
By the way, last night we booked siena for this weekend, sicily for November , and I am going to the amalfi coast with Jackie and jeff in October. Check the vacation schedule thing on my blog to keep track.
Hopefully I'll write soon,
Love Angela
