Wedding day!!! ... And it was bucketing down :(
We had a leisurely morning getting ready, all the while looking out the window at the gusting rain crossing our fingers it would let up (FYI it didn't until about 7pm).
So here's another car divorce story for you. What should have taken 10mins to get to the church for the ceremony didn't! We'd allowed 40mins but it took us 46... Judes let us down again with the freakin road works.
We finally arrived frazzled, wet and cold. But we beat the bride (who, thankfully for us but not her, was awaiting the return of her bridesmaids car as hers had a flat tyre!). So in we rushed and gathered ourselves on the back pew on James' side.
Julia looked absolutely stunning and the whole ceremony went off without a hitch (unless you count Mitch breaking a bible by throwing it on the floor - Chris and I both pretended we had no idea who he was...yikes)
Back in the car and on to Dundas Castle for the reception. Again we managed to balls up the trip and came in the back way (probably the servants lane).
We enjoyed pimms and lager in the lobby of the castle whilst James and Jules had their photos done and then we were moved down into a marquee for the evening. It was such a shame that it was so wet because we really didn't get to appreciate the castle at all.
We really had no idea what to expect with a Scottish wedding but us Aussies were very warmly included and it was a great night.
There was a bagpiper (who sadly freaked Mitch out every time he started up - we had to take him outside every time, he just lost it), haggis (which we all surprisingly enjoyed) and Gaelic dancing (awesome fun).
The guys looked brilliant in their kilts and they .. er, really embraced the national dress (I'll leave it to your imagination but at one point there, Mitch's nappy bag held more than just his own pants!)
Mitch was a huge hit in his little Robertson kilt and performed brilliantly all night (minus bagpiper incidents and everytime people clapped, and they were long speeches - turns out an overtired 1yr old doesn't cope with loud noises)
The wedding finished at 12am and after getting lost again coming back (there's been a real theme here today) I successfully managed to reverse back away from a police blockade and sneak away through a lane (had somehow missed the flashing lights saying 'no entry'! - I wondered why there were alot of drunk people on the road playing chicken!?! ... hmm)
Ps have taken lots of pics of the boys but they're still on the camera...
