Today was a very educational day - educational in that it was a reminder of how young Australia is, and how old England is...
Bernie needed to see his mum today at Southampton so we hitched a ride and were dropped off at Winchester.
This was a typical English country town but with so much history. It was actually where the first King (King Alfred - whom it appears everyone was very fond of - anyone shocked that a royal is still loved after 1200 years???) was from and was hence the first capital of England. There was a beautiful little river running through town and the biggest cathedral we've ever seen. We had lunch in a typical English pub and Mitch took great delight in playing on the swing and staring at other kids (mouth open) in the playground.
In the evening, the boys stayed in to watch the US Open (golf) whilst I met up with Lizzie to see Hamlet at The Globe. In typical fine London form, the bus (randomly) terminated early and I was forced to walk the rest of the way in the rain. Finally met up with Lizzie only to discover that watching a play was not conducive to 4 years of catch up. Despite this, Hamlet was awesome (remembered more from Year 11 English than I thought I would) and Lizzie was great (will see her again next week).
