Longest day of driving so far - 370kms.
Highlights of the 5.5hr drive up north were:
* Hitting Scotland after only 30mins on the road (didn't know we were that close!)
* Another ring road (this time around Glasgow)
* Seeing where Dave (Chris' PM at work) grew up (didn't need to see the good parts of Glasgow to realise this was a rough part)
* Eating our cheese sandwiches in the Maccas carpark (so we could use their toilets and baby changing facilities)
* Solar panels on a house on the peninsula (not exaggerating, we had about 20mins of no rain the whole way, and this is summer - those panels must be useless)
* Mitch finding his own nostrils!
Despite the weather being horrendous and ruining what we could only imagine to be spectacular scenery around the Kintyre Peninsula, we arrived at Tarbert mid-afternoon to our B&B on the harbour.
The pic here is the view from the room I had hoped to get but we got one facing the back wall with ivy on it. Pretty disappointed at first but it's a bigger room so very grateful now.
Braving the intermittent rain (my umbrella has actually broken now so mitch is the only one with wet weather protection, over his pram), we headed out to see this quaint fishing village where Pop's family was from.
Within 30mins we were done! Haha
Unfortunately Mitch and I were both going through feral hour so after another 30mins of cabin fever back at our room we left Ganey to head up some stairs to see the ruins of tarbert castle.
The view from up top back over the harbour was absolutely stunning and I had hoped to let Mitch roam around whilst I took photos but there were random goats everywhere, which meant goat poop everywhere. And yep, it took less than 30secs for him to pick some up, another 5secs for me to practically knock him out with my camera when I bent down to pick him up and then -2secs for the rain to come out of nowhere. Aargh - who would live in this country...
Back to our B&B for showers and downstairs for dinner - we spoiled ourselves tonight as we looked out over the harbour. Am now completely stuffed and regretting the choc fudge brownie...
