A delightfully easier day today. They were anticipating heavy rains today, and in true Gane style we are definitely not equipped for wet weather - goodness knows why we're heading further north then!
Started with a trip in to town to have a wander around. If Windermere is for the English with its stone walled buildings and Bowness is for the tourists with its bright colours and shops, Keswick is for the grey nomad adventurers.
Oh yes, we are well and truly out of place here without our trekking boots, fancy walking sticks and backpacks done up around our middles. Every second store is for hiking/adventure gear and even the lady in the tourist office did a double-take when I asked for a lookout that I could drive to. Even after telling her we have a 1yr old she still suggested a mountain that required a 30min walk from the parking lot. Try again! And she did, but back to that later.
So we decided to spend a bit of time this morning in Puzzling Place (which was right up Ganey's alley). Illusions and mind-games. It was all really fun until it all started getting a bit trippy.
So off we set for a cuppa and given I couldn't make up my mind about where to go, we ended up stranded under an awning as a downpour hit - did I mention we're not equipped for wet weather?!?
So when it slightly eased we ran back to the car, threw a sleeping child in (which consequently woke him) and went back to our place for the tea, lunch and a siesta.
In the arvo we were going to head back in to town to the Cars of the Stars museum (would you really have expected to see the Dolorean from the Back to the Future movies or Aston Martins from the Bond movies in the middle of nowhere?!?) but it closed down last year. Bummer...
So we took the only suggestion the tourist info lady had (ha, told you we'd be back to her) and went exploring down past the lake and up into the mountains.
And it was all absolutely stunning. The sun finally came out and we were spoilt with an amazing view and a precipice to die for (literally... if Workcover was a person it's head would have exploded at the danger of this lookout).
Oh, it was also a first for me - I had a drive. Well done Ganey for getting me to drive the street that was only just one way, winding between stone walls or hedges. But being the better driver that I am, nailed it.
Back home for more spag bol, Germany v Italy game and now Wimbledon (poor Rafa just lost!)...
