Can't even begin to describe what an awesome day today was.
Ok, so just in case you'd missed the teasers in previous blogs, we went to the new Harry Potter Studio Tour today at Levesden, which is only about 20mins from Rickmansworth. Got a bit excited with the camera (see the photo album or ... you could just watch the 8 movies, probably quicker!)
Given the movies are now finished, Warner Bros have converted their studios into a (money-making) extravaganza. For £28ea we were able to walk through the Great Hall and see all of the sets and props they'd used for filming. It was absolutely incredible how much detail had gone in to everything. We had just assumed that they'd used computers for most things but we were wrong - the attention to detail was mind-blowing.
For example, there were actually 17,000 boxes hand-made for the wands in Ollivanders Wand Shop, the panoramic scenes of Hogwarts Castle were actually done on a scaled model (which was phenominal), all of the feathers on Buckbeak were individually put on... the list goes on.
4000 people worked on the movies over 10 years. What an experience that must have been...
But the day didn't end there. We decided to have our picnic lunch at the aquadrome (Rickmansworth's very own lake) to enjoy some sunshine. Unfortunately, it was cut short when we looked across the lake and thought, hmm it looks like its raining. Not exaggerating, within 5 secs it absolutely poured :(
So we tripped back to the house and the boys later headed out to 'pitch and putt'. Finally in the arvo we got to enjoy some sunshine on the deck (turned out the only 5mins of rain all day had been at the aquadrome) and the Moores cooked up an amazing Sunday pork roast, complete with yorkshire puddings!
The evening finished on a bit of a downer though with England losing to Italy in a penalty shootout...

Phil Loving the picture show Nat. Keep it going - you are nowhere near Sherrol yet. Last count was around 2000 snaps! We watched the England V Italy game in a bar at the Marriott in Hungary. Had no choice but to go for Italy - don't tell Simon and Lizzie!
