Today i took 30 artists (musicians, sculptors etc) up to laikipia from nairobi in preparation for a huge event called 'Earth', aimed at raising awareness for the environment, in particularly climate change. We were supposed to leave at 9am from the Norfolk Hotel but there wasn't enough space in the buses so i had to arrange for a third bus (and of course no one was answering their phones in laikipia). two hours later we were ready to set off when a policeman stopped me to inform me that the buses weren't licenced for tourists. i reassured him that my 3 busloads of tourists were here strictly on business and he allowed us to leave. 20 minutes later i received a call from one of the other buses to say the driver had been arrested. no one knew why but the police wouldn't let him go so i sent one of my drivers (luckily there were two) back by matatu (a public minibus that i have been forbidden to use) to the police station to drive the other bus. i left the poor arrested driver behind, i assume they let him go eventually. i hope. we then had to wait for the bus to catch up and i had some real diva artists/managers who didn't help the situation or my stress level! we were expected for lunch at ol ari nyiro but didn't make it to Makena's Hills until 7.30pm. i was absolutely exhausted!
