I spent Christmas day morning frantically compiling a report on animal photographs and birds so it was all sorted before I left. Other than that it was quite chilled out and very quiet as everyone had either gone home or was hosting guests apart from Alfie and I. Boxing day was the day of my departure. I was told I would be picked up at midday by a taxi so I’d get to Nairobi well before dark. Due to car problems and multiple breakdowns in communication (after all this is Africa), the car finally arrived at camp 6.30pm where the driver declared he didn’t have any diesel – unbelievable! Anyway we set off at last, arriving in Nairobi at midnight. The taxi was a combi which really wasn’t great on the dodgy roads (it rained a lot of the day) and the driver kept forgetting about the speed bumps. To add to this, my window didn’t shut so it was quite cold and a lady sitting in the front occasionally interrupted my ipod listening to ask if I was asleep or to tell me that the black and white striped animal by the road is a zebra! On the plus side due to all the chaos I had Tanguy to keep me company for a couple of hours along the way.
