So it's officially been my 2nd full day at camp. It's been pretty intense, full of training of what to expect, how to do lifting of people, how to restrain them if necessary, how the camp sessions will run and all the boring, usual human resources stuff they have to run through to make sure we are following Connecticut law.
Aside from all the long days - it's like being back at Repton. Breakfast at 8, training starts at 9, half an hour for lunch, training again till dinner with a short break for free time, followed by more training. By 9pm (ish!!) we are all shattered and although stay up chatting, listening to music etc I'm asleep well before midnight!
Tonight was a little more laid back. After all the usual training we went out and practiced camp songs around the camp fire and made smores. Typically American!
I'm now sat planning my activity sessions for camp sessions. Surprisingly difficult when you don't know the full extent of the campers disabilities. I am however very proud of my planned activity of a mini camp hemlocks Olympics adapted for people with both physical and mental disabilities - any other ideas you have would be appreciated though!
