I landed in Newark last night at around 1am UK time. Spent ages queuing to get through passport control to be greeted by some very grumpy men stamping passports. Though to be fair I would probably be that grumpy if I had to do that all day, every day! I picked up my bag which somewhere along the journey had been damaged breaking the strap. Thankfully I've managed to temporarily fix so it will last me the whole journey. We were greeted by a member of staff from camp America, piled onto buses and taken to our hotel for orientation.
Here they ran through the usual boring stuff, followed by the great news that I had to be ready to catch my shuttle bus the next morning at 5:15am. Anyone that knows me knows that this is devastating, especially when we didn't get into our hotel rooms until midnight! I pre warned everyone that I was likely to be grumpy.
So this morning I woke up, fresh as a daisy at 4.30am, on the shuttle bus at 5.15 and in New York by around 6am. As our next bus to Connecticut wasn't until 8am (could have had an extra hour in bed!!!!) we wandered around New York for an hour seeing the Empire State Building and Times Square. Challenging with a 19kg rucksack on my back - seriously regretting packing so much.
I'm now sitting on my Peter Pan bus (that's it's actual name) to Connecticut with 8 other camp workers eating my packed breakfast - provided by Camp America and in a brown paper bag, making me feel very American!
I've already forgotten half of my other camp friends names but I there's a British girl living in Germany, 3 guys from the UK, one very quiet foreign girl, 2 slightly over confident but nice polish girls and an Irish girl (although Southern Ireland it still reminds me of being in Newcastle with Jenny and Hannah!)
Excited but still very nervous of getting to camp and what to expect!!
