We had takeout pizza for dinner as we were advised not to leave the hotel as the area "wasn't the best"! Encouraging! Then we got to enjoy a hotel room for the night before camping for 15 nights before another hotel! Sleeping in a double bed again was amazing!! We had a 6am early wake up for breakfast in the morning and ready to leave at 7am.
We stopped off at Philadelphia along the way to Washington DC. I had a Philly cheese steak sandwich which was so good! We looked around the independence hall and had a quick wander around the city before getting back on the road! There's going to be a lot of driving these next 3 weeks!!
We arrived in Washington after another 3 hours driving at our camp site. We were taught how to set up our tents and pitched one for the first time! Me and camping really do not mix! We all went to ihop for dinner which is a pancake place and I ordered crepes with Nutella and bananas! After a long day, a lot of driving and probably not enough water I felt a bit ill so didn't eat much. I took it away with me and had it for breakfast the next morning. The first night sleeping in a tent was a struggle. My back hurt, I couldn't get comfortable, I was too hot one minute, too cold the next - it's going to be a long few weeks! We got into the centre of the capital at around 10 and had the day to explore ourselves! I went in the holocaust museum and American history museum which were fun. I saw the puppet of the original kermit the frog, Dorothy's ruby red slippers from the film and Muhammad Ali's boxing gloves! At 2.30pm that day I went on a bike tour of the city. My inner history geek came out as I loved hearing about the history behind everything! I got to see all the monuments - too many to name them all! We finished the evening by having pizza with our group of the bank of the river running through Washington as the sun set!
The second night of sleeping in a tent went slightly better than the first though my bed will be the best thing in the world when this finishes! We had to pack everything up into the van and trailer ready for our next stop - the Appalachian mountains!
