It's 12.40 and I've just got into bed after my first day at camp so here's a short summary so I can go to sleep as I have to be up at 6.30/7.00.
We were given the schedule for the week after lunch and were rushing around to make sure everything was ready for camp this afternoon.
Campers arrived at around 6 where we introduced ourselves, helped move campers luggage to rooms and went to their orientation to tell them about the week. It was hard not to get emotional. Camp Hemlocks didn't open last year due to lack of funding so to see everyone speak so highly of it and how thrilled they were to be back was amazing. Some of these campers have been going for over 20yrs!
As bed time approached we were all desperate for the campers to go to bed so we could too. I helped Danielle with her camper who needed a lot of care. She could only just brush her teeth herself. It was a little strange and hard doing all the personal care for the first time and I honestly wasn't sure I could do it but hearing how excited she was for swimming that week whilst we helped her makes all of this worth while.
For now I'm going to sleep as I'll be up early to help campers get ready and since I am running the sports programme I have to be ready to lead the morning stretch at 7.30. I really am not a morning person so this will be fun.
