Yesterday was our last full day at camp before everyone left this morning. I woke up to run my morning stretch (still popular!) to find my voice was a whisper. I'm sure anyone that knows me at home is disappointed that this couldn't wait till I'm back as I love to talk. I helped Cathleen paint a plant pot whilst listening to her crack jokes about wanting to use my walkie talkie to get people to talk dirty to her - yes I get a walkie talkie, and no Cathleen didn't succeed in getting anyone to talk dirty to her. She is hilarious. She needs a great deal of care and is slow when talking but she knows exactly how she wants things done, isn't afraid to tell you and has a great sense of humour. In the afternoon we ran a casino afternoon and then ran bingo. I was very excited to do all the bingo calls but found out that Americans don't actually do them!! They are missing out. Who doesn't love "two little ducks, 22"? Joselyn helped me to call the numbers as although my voice did come back, my throat is still pretty sore.
As program staff we came up with the idea of getting the campers to vote for a "humiliation night". Each camper voted for two councillors (we purposely made it so we were included as programme staff!) to be humiliated in someway. Tonight we announced the winner/loser and we threw water balloons at Joe and Leo. Matt and Chris, however thought it would be funny to get water guns and soak a few of us - I was not impressed!!
Last night was the last evening event and we held a DJ costume party. Everyone turned up in some great outfits and were all dancing on the dance floor whether it was on foot or on wheels. A few councillors then had a late night swim playing volleyball in the pool!
Today is the final day. I woke up and did my morning stretch for the last time, ate breakfast and helped to get everyone's stuff ready to go. Then we had the closing circle where everyone shared what they loved and enjoyed about camp. This had me in tears. The bond that these people share is admirable. They never fail to stay positive.
When we finished we went to a bar and had a couple of drinks in celebration of finishing our first week with some Buffalo wings - amazing!!!
I'm looking forward to put day off tomorrow!

Ann Spary Sounds great and first full week done already. It sounds as if you have it all under control even though it sounds hard work. Very proud of you Sophie. Here's to another good week with new guests. You deserved the drink and buffalo wings (very American and Thomas loves them). Xxxxx
Lynne Embley Wow Sophie, well done! Sounds like you are having fun along with working hard. Drinks and buffalo wings to top off what certainly sounds like a great first week! Keep the blogs coming, I check everyday for them and people keep asking me how you are getting along, so good to report back from your blogs. X
Alice Wilson This is my favourite yet :D Though I hope you're feeling better. Sounds amazing - you too are admirable! X
