This past week was great! Life at the convent is the same as always, except we had to say goodbye to Sister Angel who left to go back to Jinja. My luggage finally arrived to Entebbe, and it took all the way until Thursday to get it, but it finally came!!!!! I never thought I would have been so excited to see that red duffle bag, but when most of your other suitcases were packed with supplies and you start rewearing things two or three times it is practically a field day to get your lost luggage!!
Anyway, enough about my luggage... On Friday night we invited our three Notre Dame friends who live near by over for some good old American cooking. We made pizzas and pasta (so I guess it was more like Italian cooking), and it was seriously just what we all needed. I know we've all gotten used to the food here, but there is still nothing like a pizza. After our dinner for the Sisters we all went next door to the annex where the nursing girls live and hung out with Collin, Ellen, and Greg. We played Bananagrams and catch phrase and stayed up late chit chatting about our experiences so far. It was a really fun night!! And then the next day we all woke up and headed once again to Fort Portal. We arrived at the novitiate house in time for evening mass in the chapel and it was absolutely beautiful. In fact, that reminds me because all of the masses I've been to here in Africa have been amazing. The music and the people make everything so lively and I can really feel God's presence among us.
After mass, we headed back in to town to go to one of the Brother's favorite pork restaurants, I think it was called Africana or something like that. While we were there we all tried another Ugandan beer and it was pretty good too. Dinner was interesting to say the least. It took us like an hour and a half to finally get our food and when it arrived, it came on two big platters. That's right, no plates, forks, or napkins. Even though it was weird at first we all ate with our hand and really enjoyed the pork.
The next day we all woke up, had breakfast at the house, and then we decided to go swimming in the lake. As I mentioned before, the lake at the house is the largest crater lake in all of Uganda. Just so you all know, I grew up being a swimmer. I love swimming, I really do, but I like to stick to pools. We were told that the lake had snakes in it, so that made me even more nervous, but after I saw everyone else in the lake I couldn't help but jump on in. One of the girls even recorded me jumping in!! We finished up our swim, had a quick lunch, and then headed back to Kyrausozi. Along the way however, we stopped so Collin could get out and buy a bundle of bananas for us to throw out the window to the baboons who sit on the side of the road. They were so cute and came right up to the car. I would say that it was a perfect ending to a great weekend.
