We woke up around noon on Sunday. We were so excited to see the other girls because it had been days since we were supposed to be reunited. However, their flight didn't come in until even later than ours did, so our professor found us and we had lunch with her because the other girls were sleeping. After lunch, Sarah and I went to see everyone and we caught up with each other. We talked about our flights and all the craziness that both groups experienced on our way to Entebbe. Sarah and I were incredibly jealous to discover that our friends were able to spend an entire afternoon in London!!! After their delay in Toronto, they were put on a flight that took them to London then Entebbe. Who knows, maybe on the way home we'll stop there! It was definitely great to see everyone again and we even met a group of students from Notre Dame who will be staying in Kampala for the summer doing research.
Over the course of the next two days, we completed our class on African history which was very interesting and I learned a lot about the different stereotypes that Americans have about Africa and a lot about African culture and the European influence in east Africa. On Sunday afternoon we were notified that our luggage made it to the airport so we went to get it. But when they only wheeled out three bags instead of four, I knew there was a problem…… Both of Sarah's bags were there, and my green bag, but my big red duffle bag was still missing. They told me that it was supposed to be coming in later on that day, but it never did. In fact, it didn't even make it there before we left for Kyarusozi.
On a brighter note, on Monday we went on a tour of Entebbe and had the opportunity to explore the city. We drove all over and saw many things anywhere from gorgeous landscapes to very dirty and poor areas of town. One thing I noticed on our tour was the people. No matter how much or how little they had, they all seemed to be very happy and excited to see us.
Our driver, Patrick, also recommended to us that we visit the Botanical Gardens because they were supposed to be very beautiful. And that was exactly what they were!! There were so many different kinds of plants and flowers that I had never seen before. There was even some wild life mixed in with the gardens. Yes, I'm talking about monkeys!!! There were little monkeys all over and Patrick told us that they were safe and wouldn't hurt us. I had my doubts so I didn't go very close to them, but Nora on the other hand was very adventurous and thought that she could possibly pick one up. That thought quickly changed however, when the monkeys starting hissing and showing us their teeth!!
When we returned to the Inn that evening we all had dinner together and headed to our rooms to take one last (freezing cold) shower and pack up our things because we were leaving for Kyarusozi in the morning!!!
