I can definitely say that my favorite part about this experience has been coming home every afternoon and playing with the neighborhood kids. They are so much fun and they are always so excited to see us. I've made several friends and I know that they really love having us here.
On the first day that we played with the kids, a little girl walked up to me and wanted to hold my hand, so of course I let her. Then she started walking so I followed her. We started walking down the street and then I realized exactly what was going on.... this little girl was taking me to her home to meet her family. One of the education girls who came last year told us that this same thing happened to her, so I knew this experience would be one that I would hold on to, and I have. We walked off the main road and behind an old building, then I saw it. Her house was a small, one-room, mud brick building and her entire family lived there. At first I was really sad and shocked because this was really my first encounter with something like this and I couldn't get over how these people lived, but then the longer I stayed there I realized that they really weren't poor at all, but that they were incredibly rich. They were all so happy and that was what mattered, they had each other and that was enough for them.
Every day is the same thing, we come home and go outside to play with the kids, but the cool thing is that it never gets old! I love these kids so much and I've only been here for a couple weeks. I am learning so much from them and I am learning so much about myself in the process. I am really looking forward to getting to know them even better!!
