Today was an exciting day!
On friday I found out I have been chosen for a face character fitting, and today was the day I had it! I arrived at 9 o'clock and was told (with 3 others from my formation, Luke, Christi and Helen) that we would be put in costume and make-up and would be seen by a panel who work for the character and parade department.
I was told that I had already been approved for the Evil Queen (!) and today I was being approved for Cruella de Vil and Maleficant! Because they have such heavy duty make-up I had to be seen first for Cruella who wears a plain long black dress with a faux fur coat and BIG red pointy shoes, red gloves and a cigarette holder. Her wig was great and everyone thought I looked good (the make-up artist said I was too pretty for Cruella!!)
After that I had to go back to make-up for my Maleficant face. It took soooo long to do and I couldn't find a headpiece to fit (but eventually did) and went to my second approval. In the panel room (both times) they asked me to walk in a circle in character, pose and then turn to face the side so they could see my profile. It was very nerve wracking, especially posing because I had to hold it while they scrutinised everything about me and wrote things down.
After my Maleficant viewing I went outside to wait while the talked about me. When I was called back in I got told that I hadn't been approved for Cruella (I think I might look too young) but I HAD been approved for Maleficant! And would start training for both her and Evil Queen tomorrow morning.
After removing all the green make-up and a quick lunch break, I had to go for a costume fitting. The Evil Queen dresses were soooo small around the bust but a really good length, and eventually we found 2 that fit okay. Because they never know when something could go wrong with the costume, they have two of each just incase. Then I tried on another Maleficant costume and was told that whilst Maleficant does character sets, because I'd been approved for her, I was automatically approved for "Maleficant Flame" who appears on the Villain float in the parade so then I had to try on a different headpiece for M. Flame. They were very very tiny but we found one that fit the best. If parts of costume didn't fit then they disapprove you and I definitely did not want that to happen.
After my fittings I was free til the end of my shift at 5 and once that was over I went back to the flat with Alaina. I've spent alot of time talking to mum on skype organising travel back for Sarah's wedding. I am slowly growing to hate trains. They're expensive and a pain to book online and part of me feels that the sooner I'm home the sooner I DON'T have to deal with them! Talking to mum (and George last night) has made me quite homesick and I'm looking forward to coming back for Sarah's wedding SO much and after that 1 month here will be over and I'll only have 3 left, with a visit from Mum, Dad and Tom, and hopefully George and his family on the cards and Halloween and Christmas to keep me busy, I'm hoping it flies by.
Time to make some dinner, I'll update you tomorrow with how Day 1 of Face Training goes.
A bientot!
