This morning I woke to screaming. It was my hamstrings. What are we doing ? Why is anyone doing this? In the modern age of cars, trains and planes is there any need to go through this amount of discomfort ?
Not sure if my outlook was effected this morning by the guidebook's description of the stage
"after you leave Hermanillos you will encounter no asphalt roads, no sendas, no bridges and no metal signposts. You will pass through no town, no village, no farmyard and see no houses". Sounds luuuurvely. Apparently the Romans used this road to link the mines of Astorga and the traders of Bordeaux. Crying out for a Little Chef if you ask me.
We marched through to Mansillas, garden peas, monkeys fists an' all. On arrival we proceeded to faff around and ended up in the municipal Albergue. Purely from a financial perspective it was a no brainer. The hostels were €40+ versus €10. The downside is that we are in bunk beds, the place stinks of ass and is decorated with posters of various arctic animals humping each other. The snow leopards is a particular favourite.
