Well, a good nights sleep has reduced the rage. They are just boots after all.
Came up with a list as to why I was better without them:
1. My feet can breath
2. No more blisters on the backs of my ankles
3. Taking it back to the old school - this how the original pilgrims did the Camino !
4. My pack is lighter - I'm not carrying my flip flops anymore
5. They were Hi Tec - zero street cred
6. The stitching had started to come
away from the right boots buckle.
7. My legs are getting an all over tan - no more sock line
8. Whoever took them must be very desperate.
9. I don't need to wash my socks again
10. Everyone in this wave of pilgrims knows us or knows about the bloke who had his boots stolen. I had to laugh today when we stopped for coffee and a Swiss girl came and asked if I was the guy who's boots had been pinched and was now walking in flip flops. I told her I was and she asked me if I had really walked from Burgos in flip flops. I couldn't lie to get so I told her that my boots weren't taken until Portomarin but I had wrestled a bear and saved two children from a burning building (got to spice up the Chinese whispers right ?).
An Irish girl (Clare) is having issues with her knee and tells me that she had thought of quitting until she saw me minus boots. An inspiration, moi ? I'm sure there's 5 x as many people looking at me thinking "who's the c*ck in flip flops"
So today we woke up without an alarm. It was daylight - 7.45 ! No rush anymore as I have a day of flip flipping ahead of me. We make it to Melide and stop at Hotel Carlos96 to say hello to an old student of the Spanish nursery (gracias S. Adela) My faith in humanity is restored as they welcome us like old friends and invite us to lunch. Eduardo Castro is a pretty remarkable guy - mother passed away when he was two, self made chef who moved to London to make money in order to make his dream reality: to run a business with his two sons. He also tells us how he fought to keep the spanish nursery open (& succeeded) over 20 years ago.
So celebrity status and some free scran - not a bad way to bounce back

Yanik & family Wonderful to hear things are getting better, despite the challenges! The real Nick is back! See, out of the bad, comes good - you have become an inspiration not just to your family and friends, but even to other pilgrims on the Camino - what a blessing! Oh the stories you will have to tell, and I can't wait to hear the details about the bear and the burning building...! Love you and praying for you! God bless!
Patxi After this analysis, I think we should all go with flip flops.. no more high-heels anymore!!! two days to go!!! you made it guys!!!
Gibbo Top work, Sharp. Camino in flip-flops - that's the sort of thing we expect from Danno! Keep up the good work, mate; very proud of you both. See you when you get back.
S. Adela GREAT! I knew that Castro and family from Carlos 96 hotel would welcome you. They know well what effort means and although now they live in Spain, they are very much remember here. Well, there is a time to rage and there is a time to love. There is a time to walk on boots, and there is a time to go on "flip/flops" No matter how... YOU ARE ABOUT TO RECEIVE THE COMPOSTELANA. Carry on!
