1 word summary of the day: Food
Town day ! Only 8.5 miles and 2500 ft climb stand before me and fresh food and clean clothes. Had a great nights sleep after the slopy one the night before (even though it on e again rained during the night) and hit the trail just after 6:30am. It was downhill for the first 3.5 miles until I crossed the railroad tracks (for the old steam engine tourist train that runs between Durango and Silverton) and the Animas River, and then uphill for the next 5 miles.
But with it being at a lower elevation and the lure of Silverton, made short work of the climb and made it to the trailhead by 10:30am. I waited there about 20 minutes for Veda to catch up and then we caught a ride to Silverton (Wonder was still probably about an hour behind).
Then usual town day errands all afternoon, though Silverton is a very small town and not a lot if choice in the grocery store re: food for the next 5 days. It's expensive here too - fuel that cost me $5 everywhere else cost me $8 here, and groceries were about double the price as well.
Bed at 9pm, and tomorrow one of the staff at the hostel said that they'd give us a rude back to the trailhead which was nice (after breakfast of course!)
