1 word summary of the day: mountains
The day started with a 6 mile 2000 foot climb to Georgia Pass, but luckily i seem to have found my trail legs at last (and it was cooler out) and I motored up to the 12000 ft high pass in just over 2 1/2 hours. Even found a little bit of snow near the trail, but given that it was a low snow year there wasn't much left.
Once I reached the top of the pass, along with Cynthia (new trail name Veda), and two other guys Guinness and Pilgrem, we were happy to find more trail magic! There's a 4WD road not too far from the pass and some trail angels had left a cooler full of drinks for thru-hikers. So nice!
Then it was downhill from there to camp, but at the end I was almost running to beat the storm and just managed to get my tent up before thunder, lightening and rain rolled in. So now it looks like a forced afternoon nap to wait out the storm! Poor Brandon, he hasn't made it to camp yet so either he's hiking in it :-( or hopefully was able to throw up his tent somewhere along the trail to wait it out.
Quick update - its now 7pm and has been storming since 2pm. Luckily it stopped for about 45 minutes around 5:30 so I could quickly make some dinner and do some adjustments to the tent . But looks like I'm holed up for the night now! I'm glad that I ended up bringing my Kindle with me ...
