1 word summary of the day: shower
Well Colorado finally got the rain that they were looking for! I had rain showers all night and they finally let up around 6:30am this morning. Love the new tent though as it kept me (mostly) dry!
I left camp shortly after 7:30 (packing a very waterlogged and heavy tent) and started the trek into Breckenridge. Town day! The 13 mile hike was mostly through forests, and sad to see that this beetle has been killing a lot of the trees in the area so they've had to be cut down to avoid forest fires (dry dead trees) and/or falling over on unsuspecting hikers!
I could tell that I was getting closer to Breckenridge (and that it was a Saturday) when I started running into a lot of mountain bikers out for a days ride. Colorado is full of outdoor adventure people! Though I'm still not sure how those bikers actually make it up and down the trail with all of those rocks and roots and tight turns!
Made it down to the hwy outside of Breck just after 1:00, and caught the free shuttle bus into town. It was too early to check in to the hostel/B&B, so Cynthia and I dumped our packs and went to grab lunch. When I got back after lunch I checked in, had a fabulous shower, and Nicki the hostel owner even did my laundry for me! How brave of her :-)
Grabbed dinner later that night with Brandon, who made it to town a couple of hours after I did, and am now charging electronics and catching up on things. Shopping day tomorrow for the next leg!
