1 word summary of the day: reconnecting
Short hiking day today of only 6.5 miles to get to Buena Vista for resupply and half day rest, but we still had to hump it over a 2500 ft ridge to get there so it definitely wasn't easy!
We had camped last night with a bunch of people - Wonder from Georgia was there (happy birthday Wonder!), as well as the two brothers from Tennessee that I had met briefly before Leadville (James is 64 and his brother George is 68 - hiking slow but strong!) and then we also met Carl and his super cute rescue dog Mabee who were out hiking a 10 day loop. We all headed up and over the ridge, and also met a whole bunch of day hikers on the trail as the ridge also let to a climb of Mt. Yale which is a popular destination. Got some good input from them on where to eat in town!
Once we made it down to the other side Cynthia and I said goodbye to the rest who were continuing on and hitched a ride into BV. There I was happy to receive a text from Brandon that he was also in town (with Blake - Hummingbird- who i had met briefly at the hostel in Breckenridge) they having hitched to town from an earlier trailhead! Good to see them again!
I had lunch with Brandon and then picked up groceries and fuel for the next leg of the trip and then was able to check into my room at Piñon Court Cabins (cute place!) for well deserved shower and laundry. Dinner with the gang in the evening (after the customary rain showers had abated) and then sleep in a bed!
Tomorrow I'll sleep in a little and leave town around noon for a shorter day of only 9-10 miles or so in order to maximize the town stop. Then back to big mileage days after that!
200 miles down, and I'll reach the halfway point in a couple of days.
