Today was the first day that we were able to go and run around Rome without any of our "tour guides". Even though we had a scavenger hunt to complete it really didn't feel like a Friday at all, because we had to run around and find all of these specific locations- we all started to get really frustrated and mad at one another. For the most part, we had researched all of the locations that we needed to find but for some reason a couple of them were harder to find than usual. To start off the morning, we all got up bright and early and were planning on making it to the train at 10:23 because the train leaves on time (or so we thought) we lost track of time and ended up running to the train station which is about 1-2 miles away from the palace into the next town. It was really funny to run those 2 miles to the train station because we had all been wearing either skirts or dresses. Once we made it to the train depot, surprise it wasn't there. So we were forced to sit and wait, we waited and waited- and 3 hours later we were finally on our way to Rome. Even though the day hadn't even really begun, a lot of us were already mad at the horrible start to the day. Once we finally made it into Rome, it was already past noon. Since we got such a late start to the day, we decided to go to the coliseum first to get that one out of the way—OMG I couldn't believe that we were actually inside the coliseum. It was absolutely outstanding and breathtaking. It was strange to see all of these other tourists that spoke English because for the most part we are only in towns that have no tourists. Once we left the coliseum we went around to the Roman Forum which gave us at least half of our scavenger hunt questions which was a good thing for us. We then decided we had to eat lunch because if we didn't then everything would be closed until dinner time which wasn't a good thing to not eat and be out in the heat all day. We found food and it was the best food we had ever eaten but it was a little more expensive than we originally thought because of course we were in Rome. After lunch we decided to go and look for the rest of our scavenger hunt answers (way easier said than done). Well I won't drag on that story any longer than it has to be because it's really boring and even kind of frustrating to think about. We ended up not finishing the scavenger hunt in 1 day like we had hoped because everyone was tired of walking around for those 2 very long days in Rome, so we ended early and began to head back to the Palace to get ready to go Salsa dancing in Rome with a few friends that we had met. We were headed back to the metro station and the girls decided to buy drinks on the way to the metro - Bacardi lemonade. Once we made it to the metro we traveled to the train station but had missed the train that we wanted to take so we spent the next hour shopping in the train station (it looks like a mall inside), an hour later we were finally on our way back to Albano then walked to Ariccia. We made it back to the palace and all showered and got ready to go out—we ended up going to eat pizza and then were way too tired to even move so we walked back to the palace and all crashed for the night. Bright early morning tomorrow to finish the scavenger hunt and then reward ourselves with shopping and staying late into the night to go to the Trevi Fountain at night. It's strange to think that it's only been 2 weeks since I left auburn and this place already feels like home to me. I know that's a great thing but it's going to be that much harder leaving this beautiful place behind--- guess that means a return trip in my future for sure.
