Well today was our first big day in Rome, we literally walked all over Rome. We started out in the morning by waking up and catching the 8:20 am train from Albano to Rome, it was crutial that we make it to the 8:20 train because for some random reason they don't have another train coming through until 10:20. Once we walked to the train station we went to validate our train tickets so we don't get in trouble of any have to pay fines—they suck. Well the machine didn't work so we were kind of confused but we decided to just get on the train anyway—we were finally off on our way to Rome on our very first train ride. The train ride went so smooth, once we got to Rome it felt as if I was in New York with all of the hustle and bustle of the ton of people that were surrounding us on the train platforms, we then traveled to the metro which to me seems a lot like a subway system but they don't call it that at all… we got on the metro and were off to the center of Rome. We traveled to the Spanish Steps and OMG they were amazing, we couldn't stop thinking that this was the place in the Lizzy Maguire movie "when in Rome", walking up those steps was well worth the view of the entire square. After we hung around the Spanish Steps, it was Margette Anne and I's turn to lead the entire group to the famous Caffe de Greco—we thought that would be hard but it turned out to be that we just had to walk down the street like 1 block, it was so incredibly easy (hooray for easy grades). Walking down the street made me feel like I was in Fashion Heaven; every single store on the street was high end (Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, etc.) Those of us that were fashion majors were in awe, it was strange to walk down the road and see security guards watching all of the doors. Once we made it to the Café we continued to walk on to other locations all around Rome, I'm not going to name them all because that would be way to long of a blog but it was mainly a bunch of famous churches and streets. Some of the most famous ones were: the trevi fountain, the pantheon, and of course the Spanish Steps. We walked literally all over the place. Today was one of the best days of the trip so far because it has always been my dream to go to Italy and see the Trevi Fountain. It was just gorgeous. Another place of interest that we went during the day was Via Margutte ( I was the expert of the day for this location) this street is famous because it was the street that had the famous apartment 51 from the movie Roman Holiday that stared Audrey Hepburn. Once we finished our sightseeing for the day, a few of us hopped the metro and the train back to Albano and decided to get ready and go out for another night on the town- turned out that once we got back and showered we realized just how tired we really were from walking so we ended up staying in and working on mapping out our Rome Scavenger Hunt that we have to complete on Friday - we again are walking all over Rome. Walking around I still can't believe that week 2 is almost coming to an end.. it feels like we have been here forever and I can already tell that as these weeks continue to fly bye it's going to be that much harder for me to pack my bags up in just 10 weeks and say ciao to a place I have now started to call home. In a way it's like leaving to come here In the first place, it was bitter sweet to leave auburn for 3 months but we were so excited; in the end it's going to be bitter sweet to leave Ariccia and go back to the real life in Auburn.
