Sunday May 15th: For the past couple of days it's been shocking and culturally challenging to get by the definite language barriers. Most of the Italians that the other girls and I have met so far can understand a little bit of English so hand gestures have become very useful while we are trying to communicate with them around the towns. To start off the many wonderful experiences, they told us the best way for us to get ourselves comfortable with the culture is to get out there and to immerse ourselves completely in it; and so far we have done exactly that. From going around town visiting the locals cafe's and bakeries we have learned so much, and at night we have gone to the bars to have a little wine and get to pick up on the Italian language from the locals. Going to the bars and the restaurants here has been really funny for us since they all listen to American music and see us singing along but they still don't understand what we are saying when we speak in English to them. Being in a new place, of course sticking out like crazy the Italians are always wanting to invite us out to have a good time and so far—we have done just that. One of the girls on the trip, ran into her neighbor from auburn who just so happens to be the guy who owns one of the local bars back home who is in ariccia helping his dad run for major. He wanted to show us a good time so he and his friends took us out for a night out in Rome, to a Discotech (club) that was filled with Dolce and Gabbana models and a few others. It was crazy to think that the other week we had all been sitting in Auburn, Alabama taking dreadful finals and then now we are partying in Italy. Well this first week has been a fabulous start on an amazing journey, ill update by the week due to crazy class schedules and lots of field trips.. ill also be adding weekly photos to my Facebook so email me if you would like to be able to see them. Love you all
