Today we got our first lie-in, yay! Well not quite, as a huge group on a school trip had moved in across the hall and were extremely noisy...thank goodness it was only for one night! More shockingly, the school bus arrived 4 minutes early , which was a first!
On the way to school we stopped off at a bakery to collect 600 small cakes for the girls as a leaving present. We weren't sure how we would fit all of these into the bus, but luckily Robert saved the day (yet again!) We arrived at school to find the girls were still busy with last minute rehearsals, so we went to the staff room to wait for the dance and drama to start. While we were waiting we met two of Sarah and Joseph's children who were absolutely adorable!
After a while we made our way to the dining hall where the competition was about to begin. We took our seats at the side of the stage, and after hearing the National Anthem and saying a prayer the competition began. First the houses started off by each singing versions of the school song with their own harmonies. This was followed by a mixture of dancing, singing and drama. The dramas were all based on the title "Princess and the Peasant" (pronounced pee-sant!) There was an innovative range of plays, including a hilarious one based on 'Romeo and Juliet' which was our personal favourite. The dances differed depending on which region the girls came from, so we got to see various styles of dance accompanied by amazing costumes!
At about 3pm we were called for lunch, and the cutting of the staff cake! It was huge and beautifully decorated with icing and everyone was very grateful (picture to follow!) We said our final goodbyes to the staff and took lots of pictures with them all, then went back to the dining hall to say goodbye to all the girls. It was a sad affair and we didn't want to leave, but lots of the girls promised to email us or gave us sweet letters to take home.
We were then invited to go to an 'introduction', which is when the bride and groom in an arranged marriage meet for the first time. It was quite a big celebration, almost comparable to a wedding, and the traditional dresses looked (as the Ugandans would say) very 'smart'. Jess also caught sight of an adorable baby sitting behind us, and was looking at her for so long that the mum came and plonked the baby in her lap! It was starting to get dark and the art teacher had invited us to visit her home and meet her family, so we left to go to her house. We met her husband and 3 children and were greeted with 2 types of maize and pineapple to eat. Her kids were so cute and it was lovely to meet her family after getting to know her over the past 2 weeks. It was a sad goodbye to the art teacher, as well as a sad one to Robert - our driver - who we will really miss!
It was an eventful day which we really enjoyed, but also full of sad goodbyes. We can't believe the 2 weeks have gone by so quickly and we'll really miss everyone here.

Greg What a full day! Lucky you had a lie-in. Looks from picture like you might have some 'smart' clothes of your own, have you bought or had some made there?
