We woke up early again today, so we had enough time to finish off our mural. We went straight to school and set to work as soon as we got there. We had some difficulties mixing the skin colour for one of the girls, as we didn't have the right coloured paint (having been promised red paint by the shop 3 days ago!) An even bigger problem arose when it started to rain, so we hurriedly packed the paints away and took shelter in the staff room.
When the rain didn't stop, we decided to use the time to make posters with the girls, for them to support their houses on Saturday at their inter-house dance and drama competition. Jess helped the Eagles, Fiona the Cranes, Imogen the Bats and Steph the Doves. We each made 1 or 2 posters with the Senior 1 girls - they really enjoyed it and there was glitter glue everywhere, even on their arms! It was really nice to spend time with some of the younger girls, which we had not had the opportunity to do before. Fidah also began to distribute letters written by LEH girls to the Nakanyonyi students. They were all thrilled and couldn't wait to write a reply, so we hope to bring many replies back with us.
For lunch we decided to visit Welcome Home Orphanage, as they were holding a craft fair where workers could sell their homemade jewellery etc. and all the profits acted as their bonus. There was an amazing selection and it was really nice to meet some of the workers. We also decided to follow in Hannah and Suzie's footsteps and bought 100 bracelets, which we aim to sell at school and will give all the proceeds back to the orphanage.
As it was still quite early in the day and we were all hungry, we decided to try out the food at Source Cafe, as it only stays open until 6 (too early for dinner!) The drinks were all amazing as were the big portions of food, and whilst eating our food Mr T received a phone call informing us that the red paint had (finally!) arrived. Excitedly we drove to the paint shop as quickly as possible and then hurried back to school to make the finishing touches to the mural.
We spent the rest of the evening finishing painting the mural and adding all the hand prints. We were all so happy with the final result, and all the girls and teachers also seemed delighted! It was nice to leave our mark on the school and we feel it is a nice reminder of the link between our schools. By the time we finished it was already 7pm and after washing our paintbrushes in the dark we headed back to the hotel.
We feel we've had a really rewarding day, but are exhausted so now off to bed.

Mr H Enjoying following the blog and loving the mural photos - looks like you've all made your mark on Nakanyonyi (literally!) - well done! Good to see that the 'Lady Eleanor Holles Road' sign is still in place that we saw being installed for the Open Day during our visit - hopefully your mural will last for many years to come. Also good to see you're getting a bit of rain too although I am not sure that it would match all the downpours with intermittent drizzle that you're missing here... PS How come we didn't get a bowl of fruit when we went to church?!
