Jambo friends and family!
We arrived in Uganda today at 7.30am local time. We were met by about 15 girls from Nakanyonyi Girls School at the airport, and got a chance to talk to them face to face for the first time. They were extremely friendly and polite - they offered to wheel our suitcases from the airport to the bus. On the bus journey to the hotel, we got to know them a little better, by talking about things like their average school day, their families and their favourite subjects. At one point the bus was pulled over by the traffic police but the driver talked his way out of the situation... And for our second breakfast of the day (we had already had a sandwich on the plane) we went to a roadside cafe and tried what we thought was pancakes, but turned out to be a local delicacy - Chapatti, which was delicious. At another point on the journey we got 'ambushed' by people selling sausage and liver kebabs through the window of the bus. We shut the windows but the girls opened them and bought some kebabs and also bought some cooked banana for us to try. It was interesting and we'd never had anything like that before.
We finally arrived at the hotel at about 1.00 after a bumpy journey. We spent the afternoon relaxing in our rooms and getting settled in, and played cards and banagrams after a dinner of local fish and chips in the evening.
We're all exhausted so off to bed, looking forward to our official welcoming at the school tomorrow!
