At breakfast this morning we decorated some wooden plaques with glitter glue for the art teacher. We were then picked up by Fidah and taken to a local paint shop to buy supplies for our mural.
When we arrived at the school, we showed some of the girls the decorated plaques. They were very impressed and excited to try it themselves. We got out some paper to make paper chains, and within seconds the paper had disappeared, as we were mobbed by a huge crowd of girls grabbing for paper! Despite the commotion, we managed to make a successful paper chain, and later in the day we were happy to see that the girls had hung it up all around the school.
After this, we headed to the art room to learn how to make beads out of magazines. The girls taught us themselves, and were so helpful and patient (...even Imogen got the hang of it!). We made earrings, necklaces and bracelets and invited the girls to take pictures on our cameras. Some of the girls were also doing cloth printing, using their own handmade intricate designs, which was amazing to watch and worlds away from art at LEH.
We were reluctant to leave, but Fidah had invited us to lunch at her house and Mrs Wimblett drove us down the precipitous road to get there. The meal was delicious, ranging from spaghetti to ground nut paste which tasted like peanut butter. Fidah had clearly made a great effort, and we were very grateful!
We walked back up to the school and started work on the mural. We began
doing the outline in chalk, and creating stencils for the letters. This soon attracted a crowd of girls, and they were very excited about the design. When we heard drumming from the classrooms, we quickly finished our work and went to watch. It turned out to be them practicing for their house music/drama/dance show next Saturday, and we saw how talented all the girls were, especially at dancing!
We headed back to Fidah's for tea. We were served tea, chapati and sweet bread with sultanas. All the people at Fidah's house were very surprised that we didn't take sugar with our tea. After a long chat while the teachers went for a tour in Fidah's garden, we went down to the town to have dinner. All we could manage was pudding after Fidah's feast at lunch, so we had brownies and milkshakes. We played many card games again, including snap, where Imogen got a bit too excited... We also played Cheat, and the biggest cheat was Mr T!
We're now back at the hotel, ready to head off to bed.
Watch this space!

Jess It's the one from before, with two girls in the middle and the names of both schools with lots of hand prints around
madeleine robins It sounds a very good school. I like the idea of the cloth painting. I bet there is some talent there!
