Today ended up being one for the books. The day was pretty much the usual around the hostel. I got a call from Marco and his brother who I had met last weekend with Felipe (they are brothers who were friends with Felipe's friend here.) Marco is the guy who's best English is "open window open door". Hahaha His brother speaks English fluently though, so we were able to communicate that their friend Nacho, who is a pilot, is having a BBQ (Asado) tonight and they were inviting me to come over. I said yes, of course! I was eager to meet some more locals and practice my spanish.
They picked me up at my hostel and I went with them to Nacho's house. They were just starting the BBQ with some awesome grilled chicken. People started trickling in and it became quite a good little party of about 15 people. It was rainy and cold outside but we were under a roofed in area and the fire kept us warm. I stumbled around with Spanish and everyone stumbled around with English and we had a blast! Eventually we made it inside to their living room which was much warmer and we hung out there for a while until the Pisco ran out, after which we decided we all wanted to go to Piel Rojo for some dancing!
(Every South American party I have been to ends in dancing. I love it!)
We called a taxi and went out to the bar. The upstairs was packed this time and we all had a great time (even with my terrible white girl dance moves). People here reallllllly know how to dance. :-) Marco is a DJ and this is the place he works at. After the bar we went back to Nacho's house and had a small party (of about 8 people, I think), and a second BBQ because we were all starving by this point. At around 7:30 or 8am I decided it was probably time to head home... It was fully light out by this time, of course, and about time to set breakfast at the hostel! Thankfully, Sandra and I had been trading mornings and this was not mine, so when I returned I went swiftly to bed after a little Skype chat with Felipe, who also had been up with his friends. South Americans like to stay up late when it comes to parties. Go big or go home!
