Today consisted of working on my Spanish, helping with chores, and hanging out. I helped unload the dishwasher, took out some trash, checked the bathrooms... Such a hard life! Haha I found a Spanish book that I am reading out loud to myself so my tongue can get used to speaking the words more quickly. I did some photo editing also and I hung out in the nice backyard for a long while.
I went with Sandra to buy dog food for Shulz, the hostel dog. He's a little sweetie and will walk with you almost anywhere and doesn't enter buildings where he knows he shouldn't be. He waited right outside the door while we were in looking for his food.
Right before dinner we had a power outage. Thomas says it happens sometimes, possibly when they need to work on the equipment they switch to their backup generator and it causes no power for a little while. So, we broke out some candles, Piscosour, and Russian vodka for Thomas (it's the only alcohol he will drink).
I asked him "why only Russian vodka?". He told me the story about when they were in traveling through Russia on a train for four days. He was walking through the train and met this big rough looking Russian guy and they hit it off and hung out for a long time. Of course vodka got involved, and even though Thomas never really drank, he was forced to take a shot to friendship. Now, this being in Russia, it wasn't just a verbal coercion of "come on man, just one shot to toast our meeting"... It was more like the Russian pulled out a pistol and told him he HAD to toast to this friendship! Hahahaha There was no harm in it, so they went ahead and made a toast. And of course, it wasn't just one shot, but they did it Russian style and went all out. Since then he will only drink Russian vodka, which surprisingly is available in Coyhaique at the end of the world. :-)
We also ended up watching fun YouTube videos for awhile (interesting subjects like making pot oil, for example. Haha!)
The day was quite good overall. A little slow, but I'm slowly getting used to it...
