Happy birthday to my big sis Melissa! :) These last few days were pretty chill... Mostly hung out at the hostel and worked on creating a map of the hike I did earlier in the week. The drawings are now finished, have been scanned, and will be painted tomorrow. It was a good way to learn a few more words in spanish, as I put the legend in both languages.
Oh, on Thursday the group that was trekking for 19 days on the glacier had returned. Let me tell, a bunch of guys hiking across a glacier for that many days, constantly wet and sweaty, without showering, DOES NOT smell good afterwards. They were almost not going to make it back that day and could have possibly had to reschedule their flights for Friday, but the weather had thankfully cooperated so they were able to stay one night here in a real bed (and shower! And we did some of their laundry ---eeeeeew) before getting back to reality. It had to be a bit of a weird sensation being back in a city after trekking such a quiet place... They were experienced hikers and had done this sort of mountaineering/trekking quite a bit in their lives.
This weekend has been pretty quiet otherwise. We have a guest, Hamilton, from Denver, Colorado who is studying abroad here in Santiago and is taking a little vacation south before he has to take his final exams. Another is Brittany from Vancouver Island, Canada. They took our Marble Caves tour and also had the opportunity to see a festival in a small village and have an asado (bbq) with them. I will hopefully be going to the Marble Caves/Marble Cathedral in a few weeks as well to see it, so I hope the weather cooperates!
Tonight Thomas is driving 6 hours south to help recover some of the gear that was left on the glacier, as the client had to drop some of it in order to move faster to get to the plane in time to take them to Coyhaique for their flight home. He prefers driving these roads at night because they are quite narrow and it is hard to see around bends, whereas the headlights provide a bit of a warning when coming around a corner. Less traffic as well.
I am feeling quite good about myself lately... Feeling like a stronger person everyday. I have already started to figure out my priorities and what I want most in life.... That was my goal coming here -- to figure myself out. It's a good feeling to know I am on the right path...
