On Thursday we left the RV Park around 10 AM, the only goal today is to drive. We have 626 miles to get home. That is too much for one day in the RV - it makes it for a very long day on the road. We have driven that much occasionally, but only if we head out really early and have the energy to do it. When we started our road trips back in 2009 600 miles was not a problem. I was able to drive really late at night also. Now I cannot drive really late, after a full day of driving and/or sightseeing I am ready for bed early.
Gil drove until we made a stop for lunch. I took over driving and made a stop for gas. We kept going until almost 7PM when Gil found a restaurant near Macedonia OH for dinner. When we got out of the exit the restaurant was miles away and we were right by a shopping area with a Walmart and many restaurants. We decided to try to eat around there. The Fuji grill had a long wait and Wal-Mart said no to overnight.
Gil found another Mexican restaurant closer, so we left that plaza and went there instead. I do not like ending up around this area for the night, there are not many good choices close to the highway. The only time I am ok with spending the night in northern Ohio is if we are on the 80 and can stop in their plazas with hookups.
After dinner we drove up the road about 14 miles to another Walmart. When we got there, we were not sure it was a Walmart - there was no signs even though it looked like maybe at one point it was a Wal-Mart. It was in a very busy intersection and a really small plaza, so that was not a good place. We went back on the road. Our next option was the rest area, but it was not a good one. One of those with parking spots on both sides along the road into it and it was jammed packed with trailer trucks. We kept driving, Gil wanted to continue home, but we were about 3 hrs. away and I was ready to stop.
We drove another 20 miles or so to the Flying J near Austinburg OH. It was busy- there were a lot of RVs and some trucks. The center spots were all taken, but we were able to park along the side of the parking lot towards the front. We parked facing the grass to be able to safely open the bed slide out. It was hot out, so we turned on the generator to run the AC, took showers and went to bed. We had a restful night, the AC noise blocks out the generator noise and any other noise outside.
We woke up about 8 in the morning. After getting ready we had breakfast at Denny's, dumped our tanks and headed home. We drove 476 miles yesterday so we had 150 miles to go. We were home by 1PM.
I do not want to sound ungrateful. I had to remind myself of the saying "Don't be sad because it's over, be happy because it happened". I am really not ready to go back home. I can stay on the road forever!?
