We left Huntsville today around 10AM. We have 826 miles and our goal is to get home by Friday, so we have a little time to spare on the way.
For Nashville I bought a sightseeing pass that included four attractions. The Hop on and Hop off bus tour was one, the entrance to the Country Music Hall of Fame was the second one. We visited the Ryman and Parthenon, but those were not included in the pass. We paid less for the pass than those two activities combined, so I did not feel bad if that is all we used it for. The pass is valid for 30 days from when first used. The route back home takes us through Nashville again, so if we time things right we can take advantage of it.
There is a 2PM Segway tour at the Belle Meade plantation and we can use our pass there. Belle Meade was a stud farm and nursery for Thoroughbreds at the premiere of the horse racing industry. We are not much into horse racing, but I do love horses and riding Segways will be cool. We made it to the plantation in time to get tickets for their 2PM Segway tour. We also "bought" their Mansion tour at 4PM. We had a quick lunch in the RV since there was not enough time to order food at their restaurant.
We met our tour guide at the Rose garden. We were the only ones on the tour, so it was like a private tour. We rode the Segway around the plantation, learned the history of the plantation and then had a little break before the 4PM tour. During the mansion tour we learned many of the horses that are still winning the races today like Justify can trace their bloodline to Bonnie Scotland - a famous stud horse. After the Mansion tour we took a look at the carriages and then headed out.
We decided to spend the night at Cave Country RV Park in Cave City KY. We stayed here on our way south, so we know the facilities are good and the campground is easy on and off from the highway. I called and made arrangements for the night and late arrival. We hit rush hour traffic plus construction traffic, so the 97 miles instead of 2 hours took us 3 hours. We had dinner at Mazatlán, the best Mexican restaurant we found on this route.
It was late and dark as we entered the CG, but the park is not unknown to us. This eliminates the nuances of arriving somewhere new in the dark which is one of the reasons we stop at Wal-marts or other places like that for the night when is late. You do not want to be the one arriving at a CG making noise after everyone is in bed, plus is harder to see where you are going and backing up in the dark. I guess as long as you are there before quiet hour it should not be a big deal, but full time RVrs criticize that to no end.
We now have 626 miles to get home. A comfortable pace for the two days left on the trip.
