We left early today since it's our longest driving day between sites (not counting the initial leg of the trip or the last leg) - we have 377 miles and have to be at the campground before 5PM. We are heading to the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. There are three NASA sites in the US and this is one of them.
We arrived at the campground at 4:45PM just in time. The campground is small right on premise. Perfect to just bike ride to the Center if we did not have a vehicle. But NASA is not the only purpose of this stop. We are going to visit friends and family so we are going to need a car to get around. After hooking up the RV we called Enterprise to come pick us up. We made the car rental reservation on our way down when we stopped for gas. I called the local office to see if we would be in their range for pickup. They said yes and transferred me to their reservation line and I did not have to give them any details. They had my account up and even payment information.
After picking up the car we headed to Neri's house. We got some Mexican takeout and just enjoyed the evening with them.
Tuesday - We woke up early and visited the US Space & Rocket center. We arrived around 9:30 and were there over 3 hrs. We saw one of the movies and also a presentation on the Space Station. Did you know you can follow its path and see it with the naked eye when it travels through your area?
We learned this location is where the rockets are build, so this was the center for the Apollo moon mission. I always wondered how they took all that equipment to the moon so this answered some of my questions.
When we were done we stopped by the RV to pick up some things we needed. We went to have lunch at Chick-fil A and then headed to Neri's house.
Yesterday Neri requested I cook some Cuban food. So Neri and I went shopping for dinner ingredients. I guess Neri was hungry when we were at the store. We came back not only with the meat we were planning to get, but yuca and plantains. Gil took Jakob to baseball practice so Neri could stay and learn how to cook Cuban. I made Congri, Carne Asada, Yuca, tostones and we had salad. Sarita and her family and Titi Jenny were also there with us.
We head out tomorrow. Too short of a visit. We will have to come back soon.
