This morning when I checked the weather for our route for the day - as I normally do before we head out, I learned that Tropical storm Bill is heading north towards Oklahoma and is going to hit Oklahoma City starting sometime today during the day - our route takes us directly into Oklahoma City and puts us in that area to spend the night.
The guys had gone to the breakfast buffet at the casino, but knowing today is mostly a driving day, I did not feel like eating a huge breakfast was necessary, so the ladies stayed back and had healthier options in the RV. When the men came back I informed them of the new developments and suggested we take our time this morning to prep the RV for the rain and getting the tanks ready in case we boondock when we stop for the night.
We cleaned the windshield and re-applied RainX, filled and emptied our tanks and headed out by the checkout time. Gill did use the showers in their facility after being sweaty for all the prep work and he said the place had really nice private shower area with toilet and sink all in one room. We plan to drive less miles today and stay west of the storm just to see what it really does. I am hoping maybe it dissolves into just rain or takes a turn in another direction. We decided to stop near Amarillo, TX at Oasis Resort to relax for the evening and rest for the long drives in the days ahead.
We arrived at Amarillo much later than projected - we stopped for lunch west of Albuquerque and once we got back on the road we learned the highway was closed down for 3 exits and we had to exit the highway to bypass that area. We were stuck in traffic over 1 1/2 hours just to get through a couple of miles. The reason the highway was closed was because someone was threatening suicide in one of the bridges over the highway. I said a prayer for the man and the police who were responding to the situation. We had inched our way moving over three lanes towards the exit lane and as we were about to squeeze into the last lane the highway opened back up. We quickly turn the steering wheel to the left and were able to proceed without exiting and without any traffic ahead of us. I later learned the Cops/Fire Dept were able to get the person off the bridge.
We had plans of visiting Cadillac Ranch and I chose an RV park that was near it, but we arrived much later than planned and on top of that lost an hour to the time change. Instead we made dinner and called it a night - maybe tomorrow.
