When we left the RV park yesterday I learned there is a Tropical Storm with the prediction of turning into a hurricane heading for the Gulf. Last night we checked out what the various forecast were predicting and concluded it most likely would only be a Tropical Storm. NOLA is in the projected path and it can cause flooding if it hits there. While looking at the reservation information for our CG there I discovered we do not really have a reservation. Ponchatrain Landing RV resort messed up my request and gave me the reservation for next year. I tried calling them and no answer, so I e-mailed them requesting a refund.
We assessed chances are the storm will go east of us. If it does come here it will probably only be a Tropical Storm. Gil wanted to cancel all our plans and head north, but I really do not want to do that. The pastor help me convince him it's not going to be bad. We are going to stay at the Pastor's house and if we determine the storm is coming here, we will move the RV to the church parking lot where there are no trees.
After a delicious breakfast prepared by Gina we headed out to NOLA with Pastor and Gina. We parked at the visitor center and the Hop on Hop off bus was there. Those city tours are a good way to get a feel for the city and figure out what you like to explore. We bought tickets and got on it. The Visitor Center was stop #5, so we rode the bus all the way to the end and back to Stop #1 in the French Quarter. Our first stop was to buy Chocolate Pralines for Pastor at his favorite shop, but they were out. We then walked past Plaza D Armas and then went to get Beignets at Cafe du Monde. NOLA is pretty empty due to the expectation of the storm. The plus side is you do not have to fight the crowd, the downside is the French Market was closed due to the storm, only the permanent vendors were there and they were mostly bars. We had lunch at a pizzeria and headed back on foot walking through Bourbon St back to the car.
The storm was supposed to arrive in the early afternoon and everything is scheduled to close in downtown at 3PM. This does not look like a place that is prepping for a hurricane, except it scared the tourists away. We drove home as it started to sprinkle. Once home we turned the on the TV to get an update, even though the channels were still trying to make a big deal out of it, it looked like the storm was east of us. Pastor said most of the water would be dumped on the east side of the storm anyway. There should be no need to move the RV. It was not raining so we decided to go for a swim before the storm hit. The storm ended up going east and made landfall near MS and AL border and was downgraded to a depression right away.
