Hello!! Happy birthday to Ange!!! Hope you have a great birthday mate and no doubt you are recovering from a drunken weekend !!! So sorry I am not there to celebrate with you!!
Also a big happy birthday to my little cous. Hope you had a great day and got spoilt rotten by your ma and pa and your bro's. I am really sorry I did not text but my global sim network coverage is down at the moment.
Had an interesting week at work last week. I was auditing a former prison which is now been converted into apartments and a social area with cafes, pubs and restaurants as part of a regeneration programme in Melbourne. We had a tour of the former prison and it was so eery much more so than Alcatraz. I guess as there was no tourists and the cells have yet to be cleaned up. We saw where the last person in Melbourne got hung and also the cells of the high security prisoners which was good. There was no way we were working there after dark!
Last weekend I went on a day tour to the Grampians National Park. It was a long day with a 6am start and a 11pm finish - not good on a sunday before work!
The Grampians are a 2 and a half hour drive out of the city. My tour group was a lot smaller to previous adventures which was cool as I could get to know everyone else.
We first stopped at Ballarat for morning tea!! It was here that I got chatting to Swiss guys, Stefan and Joel and a girl from New Zealand called Emma. Stefan and Joel are over from Switzerland for 2 weeks for work and Emma is here in Oz for a year to work. We ended up spending the most of the day together which was really nice.
It was then onto the Grampians!! The Grampians are very pretty and it was nice to get away from the city and see new places. We stopped at various scenic points during the day for photo opps and walks and my favourite was Mackenzie Falls.
There was one down point to the day in that we stopped for lunch at this cultural centre. We straight away ordered food and it took over an hour for a bowl of soup to arrive. This meant we had no time to look round at the centre itself which was a bit of a bummer.
Anyway at the end of the tour I swapped numbers with Stefan, Joel and Emma and we decided to meet for drinks on thursday night. Well thursday night came and I drank a bit too much!! It was a good night and we went drinking at Fed Square which I had wanted to do by recommendation of Catherine and also drank at the Crown where the guys were staying.
Friday at work was a bit hard to say the least. Luckily Sarah from audit was leaving today so we went out for lunch and this gave me the opportunity to have some hangover food. That evening there was more drinking at the apartment so it was a case of hair of the dog.
On saturday I was still feeling quite rough and did not even make it to the gym (very unlike me). Saturday was the AFL final between Geelong and Port Adelaide and to follow the Aussie tradition I headed to Mike's for a BBQ and to watch the game!! It was not much of a game and was over by the third quarter with Geelong hammering Port Adelaide.
