Hello !!! I have arrrived in Broome after my 4WD tour of the Kimberleys and finally have access to an internet cafe and phone reception. I plan to update you on my last 11 days.
Well arrived in Darwin in the early hours of sunday morning and got a shuttle to my hostel on Mitchell Street. Felt so old at the hostel as it was full of 18 year olds partying hard as it was a saturday night. Managed to get about three hours sleep and had to get up at 6am to start my tour. Did not say hello or goodbye to my fellow dorm companions as theuy were asleep when I arrived and still asleep when I left
Our 4WD bus arrived at 7am, our tour guide being Chappy and our hostess Rachel. 2 great people who have been the best tour guides I have ever had with Connections.
There were 8 of us on the tour through the Kimberley's. I like having a small group as not only do you get 2 seats to yourself on the bus but you can get to know everyone really well.
We had a young couple from Scotland who are taking a year out in Oz, called Alan and Corin. 2 best friends from England who are taking 9 months out travelling around Oz after graduating from uni. An older couple from NZ who were the mum and dad of the group called Meryll and Richard and finally a guy called Bernt from Swizerland who was doing his second connections tour of the region.
Our first stop today was Edith Falls which is located in the Nitmiluk National Park for a swim, walk and lunch
In the afternoon we drove onto our camp site in Timber Creek. Yes I will be camping for the next 11 days!!! Hard to believe I know as I like my home comforts!!! I have already ditched the makeup and straightners andmaking full use of my various baseball caps!
This camp site was right next tot a river full of freshwater crocs!!! Crikey!!!!
As the weather is so hot and humid!!! I mean mid to late 30's c we decided not to bother setting up tents and sleep under the stars. Our sleep was made a little bit harder due to the fact tat there were lots of fruit bats flying around during the night.
At the camp site there was this other couple from Oz who were travelling around and carrying out some volunteer work. This volunteer work was to catch and kill cane toads. There is a problem throughout O with cane toads as they are killing the wildlife. So we as a group decided to help this couple out and have a go at catching a few well to be exact 148 in 1 hour that were hopping around the campsite!! Bear in mind it was dark so god knows how many we did not see with our torch hiding in the bushes.
