Hello peeps!!!
Had a great weekend!! The Great Ocean Road was a really good experience. It was a long day as we had to meet the tour bus at 8.15 and did not get back till 11pm. Our driver was George and he was excellent. The weather was good mild and sunny!!!
We made our way to this famous road going through the cities of Geelong and Coral Bay.
We stopped off at the town of Torquay mid morning for some Aussie tea and Lamingtons. We then carried on the Great Ocean Road stopping at various scenic points on the way to take photos including Bells Beach.
We had lunch at the Beach in Lorne and then it was onto the highlight of the day which was Port Campbell National Park and the 12 apostles. Millions of years of erosion have sculpted these incredible landmarks. I decided to make the most of the experience and go on a helicopter ride over the apostles which was good fun.
It was then off to marvel at Loch Ard Gorge and my favourite London Bridge.
On the bus I sat next to this lovely girl from Austria which was cool who had great English she was over in Oz for 8 weeks, we spent most of the time laughing at the man behind us. He spent half the trip asleep with the oddest snore I have ever heard.
On sunday it was another early rise to go to the Puffing Billy and also to the Yarra Valley.
The Puffing Billy is a steam train that travels through the Dandenongs. Again as like yesterday we stopped mid morning in the Dandenongs for some more Aussie tea and Lamingtons. It was here that I started chatting to 4 girls from Melbourne who had decided to go on the day trip as it was something different to do on a Sunday.
The puffing billy ride was very pleasant and took about 25 mins. The train was full of kids but fun anyway!!
It was then back on the bus to the Yarra Valley for a roast lunch and some wine tasting. The roast was beef and I had Yorkshires, pots and veg - I had so missed this!!! Never as good as my nan's or mum's but boy it tasted good.
After a quick wine tasting session, it was back on the bus. All of our tour except myself and the 4 girls wanted to go to the Healsville Sanctuary. The driver dropped them off and we carried on to the next 2 wineries. Oh my god we got so drunk..... A couple of the girls bought bottles of wine and we decided on the drive home to open them up on the coach. I had bought some traditional Aussie CD's and we got the driver to put the music on and we were singing and dancing at the bank of the coach. God knows what the other sober passengers thought!!! Oh well I had a great time!!! Funny enough one of the girls actually lives in Tasmania and the other 3 are planning to visit her when I travel there so we have made plans to meet up which will be great!!
It was then off to bed in the hope of not having a hangover for work.... and I didn't!!!!
