HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Hope everyone had a good New Year and didn't suffer too much the next day. I know I did. New Years was amazing and for once I didn't spend a fortune. On New Years Eve, we set off from the flat at 3pm and headed towards Circular Quay but not before making one important stop off at the local bottle shop for a few crates of the good stuff between us. Theres 8 of us staying in the flat...us three, Siobhan, Cas, Anna, Dane and Kev so us lot set up camp in a great little position near the Harbour Bridge and across from the Opera House. There was a great party atmosphere and everyone was talkng to everyone. The "family" fireworks came on at 9pm and they were really good. I can remember that :-). Then after many more drinks it was time for the countdown and the main firework show. Everyone had been talking it up so you'd think it wouldn't live up to the hype...but it did. It was amazing! Well what I remember of it. I had been drinking since 4pm so all those that know me could easily imagine what state I was in. It lasted like 18 minutes (so I've been told) so I was a great show. After wishing everyone a Happy New Year I'm not joking I was all cuddled out. Oh yeah and I saw a mate from Sixth Form in one of the Bars in the City later on. Small world. I got a little tap on the shoulder and there he was..."You Alright Slim". Slim lol...not so slim anymore. Got back to the flat the next morning, not sure what time but there were a few milkmen about. What a day! But definately an exhausting one.
I had all of a few hours sleep because we went to watch the Barmy Army take on the Fanatics (Aussie Version of Barmy Army) in a 20/20 match at Coogee Beach. It was so hot, I thought I was going to waste away. When we got back to the flat I was ready and so were Milsy and Roomy to get a little shut eye but the Sunderland boys (Dane ad Kev) dragged us out literally to get back on it! I know...two nights in a row. I can never do two nights in a row, probably an age thing and as proven because I made my excuses around midnight and headed back.
We've been trying to find a hostel to stay for another week to weigh up what we're gonna do next but because of the season the prices don't drop still Monday so the Lads and Ladettes kindly said we could stay with them for the rest of the week. They're all legends! We've been playing a bit of Footy and Cricket with the Sunderland boys this week as well and I've probably already said it but my fitness has now officially gone. All that hard work before I came away...oh well!
We had an absolutely blinding day on Thursday. It was the third day of the Test Match and at lunch me, Milsy, Dane and Roomy went down to the SCG to see if there were any tickets left or being touted. It was completely sold out but we weren't gonna give up that easy. Dane knew the Ground really well and thought there may be a chance to get in free. Result! Roomy headed off home (apparantely he was hungry) so it was up to the three Bonds (Moore, Connery and Brosnam) to work some magic. The SCG is connected to the Aussie Stadium (the scene of Wilkinson's drop goal) and after scanning the perimeter we found a fire door open to get into the Aussie Stadium! So after dodging a few guards with some Bond like moves and jumping a few fences we were there. We even had time for our favourite drink...a Martini, shaken not stirred. We then headed towards the Barmy Army section and had a little sit near Jimmy and the boys singing all afternoon and evening, even though wickets seemed to be falling every two minutes. Its cool to say that we were at Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne's last ever Test but not too good to think about the result. 5-0, we've taken some right stick! The attendance read something like 42,433, but really it sould have read 42,433 (+3) lol.
Went to Bondi Beach yesterday with the lads and it was so hot again! And it was packed...not that we were complaining :-). There were some very nice views from where we were sunbathing! Very nice views. Headed out into the city last night and it was really good again. Because the boys are living in Sydney at the moment they know the best places to go on different nights. I've decided now though I'm officially not drinking for a while. I reckon I'll be able to last a while...well hopefully. And thats about it really...have a great 2007 and at least now I can say I'll see you soon and not I'll see you next year!
