Hey hey hey!
Oh my GOD!! This is definately one week I'll remember for the rest of my life. So many challenges we've had to overcome...Cer-Cer Crazy. Since the last post we've visited the Blue Mountains, Nelsons Bay, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay and Nimbin. Not to mention a few garages to sort the car out! Shes been a right pain (must be the time of the month or something! ) Will explain all in due course.
The week started off promising, all me and Mils needed to do was get hold of a new battery. Well so we thought! First of all it was an almighty effort just opening the bonnet. Basically the cable that connects to the lever in the car was non existent. Thanks very much! But after taking the car to the garage (the first of many) the old fella managed to install a new battery and sort the bonnet out. But it did set us back a bit with regards to the old fundage. Anyway after all that...we were two happy englishmen driving into the Mountains. The Blue Mountains were amazing. The views were incredible and I'm glad we ventured over there because at the time we both umming and arring about it. Basically just being lazy gits . We went on a tour where we took the scenic cablecar and the scenic railcar. Both quality. Both gave amazing views of the "Three Sisters" and Echo Point. Im starting to sound so old! Anyway it was time to start heading up the coast. The next thing I know is Milsy waking me up because someone behind keeps flashing us. Wolf Creek!!! aaaah. Dont worry it was only some old lady telling us that our brake lights weren't working. Great. So off we went again into the nearest town "Penrith" to find an auto electrician. Another monumental effort and one we really couldnt be bothered to do. But finally we found some dude who spoke like Forrest Gump (and wore his trousers far too high...he must have been in some pain) who sorted it out for us. Cheers Forrest! We even offered him a bit of chocolate...but he declined. Fair enough. Luckily though it didnt cost us anything at all so that was a bit of a touch. We then headed up the Coast towards Nelsons Bay and what we thought would be a long nights driving ahead. Was it heck! We were happily heading down the highway when suddenly the Car just literally dies. Oh s***! We were in the middle of nowhere on a single carriageway with no water and no food. At least our hazard lights worked
. Me and Mils have absolutely no knowledge on cars so looking back now its quite funny thinking what we were doing. I was just booting it while Mils was being more logical (checking the oil and connections). I wouldnt even know where the oil is! We were sat there a good few hours thinking the end was nigh. Luckily (well so we thought at the time) the Police arrived. "Are you alright there lads?". What sort of question is that. "Does it look like we're alright". Honestly. After explaining our situation they just said that theres a servo 15kms behind us, get a walking. Jog on, we fancied our chances staying put. Anyway the Police soon left and I admit I officially was waving the white flag whist reclining my seat for an uncomfortable night ahead. Fair play to Milsy though because he decided to start whacking the fuel pump underneath and amen Abi was roaring again. We made it to Nelsons Bay (somehow) and parked up in a fancy hotel for some sleep.
The next morning we thought all our problems were behind us! We set off quite early too (but I think the only reason for that was the sun) and half an hour down the road the car broke down again. I couldnt believe our luck . Thinking it was fuel I set off for a nice 7-10km walk to the nearest fuel stop. I was gone ages! On route back to the car Milsy pulls up with some fella in a truck called John (and that little dog). He is an absolute hero...he saved us big time! He towed us to the nearest garage and while we were waiting for the car to be repaired, he cooked us up some of his homemade spag bol. Hero. It was really nice too. It turned out the fuel pump in the car was knackered, so we had to dig into our pockets once more. But to date, the car is fine again but my god Abi's been testing us this week. At least though when me and Milsy sell the car we'll be able to get some money back!
We headed on up to Port Macquarie to have a gander at the beaches. Really nice views but you'll be able to see that in the pictures I've uploaded. We then travelled up to Coffs Harbour and once there located the nearest pub for a much needed pint! Wish we would have stayed there longer now (after Andys message) but decided to call it a night down a lovely dark side street. Two nights spent in the car...never again . Well at least we didnt have to pay for a hostel I suppose.
The next day we arrived in Byron Bay. Trying to find a Backpackers Hostel though proved to be another problem. Because it was a weekend, the town was really busy and subsequently (check that word out by the way ) all hostels were fully booked. It was time once again then to erect the tent. Oh joy. But at least we were still able to use the hostels facilities (pool etc). You cant beat a good pool! The hostel was called "The Arts Factory" and it was pretty cool but maybe a little too hippy for us. Everyone was walking round with dreadlocks and scabby loose clothes. Definately an experience! Have a shower damn it. The beach was really nice though and the town had a great atmosphere. The place to go out in Byron Bay is Cheeky Monkeys. So on Friday and Saturday, we sampled some of that cheeky nighlife. This place doesnt have a dancefloor, everyone dances (or trys to in my case) on the tables. Crazy. We had a couple of great nights out, its just a shame I didnt get any pictures. But when we return on the way back down I definately will. Boys trust me!
We travelled to Nimbin on the sunday for a bit of a day trip. This place is weird. Its about an hour inland from Byron Bay and was an eye opener. Hippys everywhere! This place is famous for certain products and we thought it would be cool to see. And it was. Again not our sort of scene but I'm glad we experienced it.
Thats about it for this week, the week ahead we're meeting up with Milsy's brother Nick and David (Miller) in Surfers Paradise. Will be great to see some recognisable faces all the way out here. Hope everyones ok and thankyou again for your messages. And special shout out to the Badgers after a couple more victories. Cheers for the voicemail message Winker. Being manager, Im looking forward to lifting the championship with you boys. Apparantely Seano Mac scored a screaming right foot volley!! Dont make me laugh . If you did pal....how?? Anyway take care everyone and see you all soon.
