Hello everyone,
We are now in Canberra!! The Capital of the land of Oz. But its been a bit of a road trip getting here. Like I said before on Tuesday we ventured out one last time into Glenelg to have a few drinks for Roomys Birthday. Karina and Alli came too and even made the old lad a homemade Birthday Card. Those Aussies are nice. After a few (and only a few) drinks we said our goodbyes and prepared ourselves for spending somemore time with Abi! Not that we don't enjoy her company :-).
We drove about 600kms after checking out of our hostel to a place called 'Mildura'. Basically its the only town in between Adelaide and Canberra. So after another tour of the town trying to find the cheapest place to stay for the night, we eventually found a quaint (check that word out by the way) motel for a pretty reasonable price. However, I did have to share a double bed with Roomy and unfortunately the old boy likes a good snore lol. And it was his Birthday as well so I was worried he may be feeling a little lonely on such a special day for him...and I was praying he didn't think I was his 'special present'. Your not unwrapping me son! Leave me be Rooms! After surviving the night (with one eye open throughout) we set off quite early again because we had about 1000kms to get through to reach Canberra. It was a very very boring drive. Theres was just nothing to look at...a part from a few roo's (on the side of the road). But we did have the cricket on the radio to listen to in 'Abi'. Not that its going too well. We finally arrived in Canberra and headed once more for the Information Centre to find a place to stay thats in our budget (that means as cheap as possible!) We staying at a YHA Hostel and to be fair its not too shabby for what we're paying. Its even got a cheeky little pool and a sauna. So after we spotted that (even though we were all exhausted) we headed straight downstairs for a quick dip. And after we got dried off, we had a quick walk round the area where we were staying to get our bearings. The next day, we woke up dead early. I reckon it must have been 8am...whats going on?? But we had to move the car. But seeing as we were up as early as we have been up all trip we decided to take advantage of this 'full day' and go sightseeing. We went to the National Film and Music Centre, where we watched a great old episode of 'Neighbours'. It was Kylie and Jasons Wedding...go on Kylie! How hot was she back then by the way! Then we headed next to the Science and Technology Park. This place was awesome, but I think it was designed for kids. But we weren't complaining. We went on a few rides and reminisced what it was like when we were younger lol. After all that adrenaline rush we walked (so much walking was done) to Capital Hill. I think its just a place where their Parliament is...but who knows. It was quite good to look at though, a few picture perfect moments in there. Of the scenary...not me! On route back to the hostel, we stopped off at the local bottle shop to purchase the cheapest bottle of vodka (again) we could find to start us all off for the evenings activities. And it was disgusting, but you get what you pay for I suppose. At least it does the job time and time again ;-). To be honest again I'm not sure what happened apart from visiting many a bar and a club. Remember speaking to a lot of people and having a litttle dance but other than that I'm not sure. I spoke to Milsy about it and as normal what he was telling me didn't trigger any memory to anything. Oh well lol, I'm sure it was a good night.
This morning we got woken up by a fire alarm! Why is it a fire alarm always goes off really early and only when you're suffering from a heavy nights drinking. It must have been going off for a good ten minutes but I wasn't moving anywhere. I couldn't. So me and Milsy opted to stay in our warm comfy beds and went with the logic that if we smelled or saw a little bit of smoke creeping under our door we would then consider 'legging it!' It turned out to be a false alarm...thank god! As I write this, we're leaving Canberra and moving on to Batemans Bay. We've been told its quite a nice place to stay (plus its only 200kms away). Canberra was OK but not quite sure why its the Capital. I wouldn't choose to come back because I much prefer a more energetic and busier city to stay in but it was nice to see I suppose. So goodbye from the Capital and speak to you all soon. Its crazy as well because theres only 11 days till Xmas! Get those stockings up everybody.
