When Facebook gets boring and you're exhausted after doing nothing all day you're officially on exchange. It doesn't make sense but that becomes the "norm".
On the way to Danish lessons we drove past a guy cleaning a chimney. Thats fine but he was wearing a top hat. Why I'll never know but he made my afternoon.
Singing in choir is fun but this week I kept coughing because I believe I swallowed a fish bone at dinner and then proceeded to attempt at signing incredibly high. Then there's the prac teacher who has a voice for opera and sings louder than all the girls put together.
Forgetting your bus card in denmark means you're $20 out of pocket. My wallet it still crying.... It cost me $8 to catch the bus, $8!!!!
Went to my first handball game with Ms.America and it was heaps of fun. The atmosphere is great because the crowd is so small. The home team comes running onto the court with lights dimmed and a spotlight waiting for them in the middle. It's totally dramatic! Then the commentator says the first name of the person who scored like a game show host while everyone has to shout their last name. They also play cheesy songs during breaks and between penalties to rev up the crowd. It's actually more of a mini rave party so all you need is strobe lights. Originally, since we were sitting on an angle, it looked like one of the guys last names was kylling (chicken) but we finally figured out it was kjelling. A nice first euro handball experience.
At the game they have these beer holders which are waaaaay more practical than the ultimate spillage ones they give you at footy games back home. I was seriously imagining how much money I could get for just bringing the idea back to Australia.
This week I ate too much unhealthy food (like always). Bought a massive romkugler which I finally figured out is a rum ball. Though it was really good and I ate the rum ball responsibly and with 18+supervision.
Breakfast at Ms. America's place was amazing. I had something other than cereal for the first time in 5 weeks :D I almost cried at the smell of white bread and bølle in the oven. We had yoghurt and bread with jam and tea and orange juice.
Forgot how good Coke/Pepsi (soft drink of some kind) is.
I walked home Friday afternoon to find my little host sister lying on a park bench in the sun with the pet rabbit attached to a leash. Apparently taking him for a walk. He was not impressed and refused to hop back home.
Booked the train tickets to Hjallese for the AFS camp this weekend. Woo pumped and excited to see your faces again. Laughing because technically, I'm still a "child" so I pay about 360kr less than everyone else! That's about $55 in Aus money. Catching the train is not cheap my friends.
Had dinner at my contact family's house. Love them to pieces! I had a great time being with them. We had pork, broccoli and cauliflower with white sauce (yum to the max). Then we played rummikub and had 3 pieces of cake and coffee. Perfect.
Even though I'm honestly doing nothing homework wise I am making sure I do the essay for English on young people and drugs. We've written and spoken about it countless times in PD but I'm still lazy to sit down and finish it. You can imagine how happy I was to realize it was due a week later than I thought.
Finally rode my bike somewhere this weekend and lets just say, unfit is an understatement. Don't know how my fitness level has declined so much but riding up that little hill left me gasping for air. Time to go running me thinks. Never go riding in Denmark without wearing gloves either. You only have to make that mistake once.
Had brunch with some of the AFS girls from Aalborg and it was a great hggye. Apparently we were sitting next to some Danish reality tv stars while we were eating. Celebrity spotting in Europe, I've now done it all. The cafe, like all of Denmark, was lovely and the food was pretty spesh.
This week has been very calming mentally. I've stepped back and had a look at the big picture. I've started to notice I'm changing and I don't think it's a bad thing. My opinions are different and you finally figure out what you should worry about and what you shouldn't. The Alex two months ago would be having heart attacks right now if you told me then what I know now. And no, I haven't gotten pregnant or wasted or done drugs or turned to the dark and crazy side of living so don't worry. Here people aren't as judgmental and you can be yourself comptely and make mistakes without feeling like a complete idiot. I never realised how judgmental we can actually be back home. Be open minded! It's fun when everyone gets along.
Next week on Life In Denmark:
Alex goes to choir
Has Danish lessons
Hands in her English paper
Has an AFS camp
& more
Tune in x
