The walk started at Ribblehead and we started off beside the massive arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct, which carries the Settle-Carlisle railway. The hard walk then headed west and south for the steady ascent of Whirnside--at 2419ft,the highest of Yorkshires' Three Peaks. Dry to start the walk but we were soon enveloped in cloud and subjected to rain and a ferocious wind. Therefore no views of the Pennines or of the Lake District until, after lunch in a sheep pen, the clouds rolled back to reveal a views all round. Along the ridge, we. Followed a long and very boring wall until we came upon the limestone pavement of Twistleton Scars, which was spectacular. Dropped down towards Ingleton, diverting to follow the waterfall track, where the river tumbled along a gorge, then back into the village.
last evening we had a music quiz-- my team came last--which was not too painful until Clive produced his trombone! (don't give up the day job)!!
We had to compose a limerick for tonight's competition--I made up two.
