Another fine sunny day. Set out from Carlton after Liz's wonderful breakfast which included smoked haddock with poached egg on top. The road along Coverdale was deserted, apart from sheep and the occasional farm vehicle. Still plenty of steep hills which I had to push the bike up. met a couple of cyclists who had just pushed up from Kettlewell. They warned me of the 1in3 hill just ahead. I had to walk down that, not trusting the Halfords brakes! Sat on a seat in the village to recover, then took the delightfully easy lane alongside the River Wharfe to Grassington (photo) The town was full of walkers, also plenty of cars.
Made the decision to take a taxi to Sedbergh and continue to ride sans panniers as I am finding the pushing the weight uphill all the time is taking a toll on my back and hip--poor old soul!! The lovely Gordon picked me up from Grassington for the ride to Sedbergh. I had fixed up a B&B in the town, so was there by 5.30--my room is a symphony in purple and yellow, but I was too tired to be dazzled. No wifi so will have to find one in the town.
