Market day in Sedbergh, also first day for the overseas pupils of the prestigious Sedbergh School. The German boy with his dad at No 10 was one of them.
Pumped up my tyres (it was to prove a bad move) and cycled to Kirby Lonsdale
Stopped at Devils Bridge,a popular tourist spot, to take photos, when a loud bang resounded round the car park. Not one tourist seemed to notice, but I knew at once that it was my tyre. It was flatter than flat and when I took it off the wheel saw that the wires were exposed --ie totally knackered. I fitted a new inner hoping it would last a while but on riding up the first hill another, lesser, explosion occurred. I had taken the precaution of obtaining phone numbers of local taxis, so was soon loaded up and back in Sedbergh--several £s lighter. I had already planned a trip to Kendal but Keith said he would take me to his bike shop for replacements. I will also call in at Halfords and let them know what I think of their cheap crappy tyres!
In the evening I had the privilege of attending the brass band practice at Sedbergh School. Keith plays the cornet--it was the town band rather than the school and was of a very high standard. They were practicing for a competition at Hawes at the weekend.
