Good weather all day. Sustrans trails are not a patch on the Dutch network. Made my way into York, found the post office and in the local park packed a box with all my camping gear and front panniers. Queued up to post it all back to Barnstaple. Masses of tourists around and walking on the ancient town walls. Took a while to find my way out of the City, but eventually was cycling through the water meadows and along small lanes to Linton on Ouse. The route to Easingwold was up a lane which gradually deteriorated into a muddy, narrow , single -lane track which included jumping over 12 inch high barriers. My bike refused to jump and had to be lifted over! Easingwold is a delightful market town unspoiled by unsightly development. The co-op supermarket was in a converted original building. Found The Old Farmhouse B&B in nearby Raskelf, with a friendly greeting and welcome pot of tea from the hostess, Linda. I wandered across the road to the local, The Black Bull to try out the guest beer, Steaming Waggon ! One glass of this was quite enough! The meal was a rather well- done piece of fish with mushy peas (of course) so the beer helped it down.
