The day started with just a gentle drizzle--by the time we climbed up our first hill, it had deteriorated into rain and a howling gale as we were engulfed by the clouds. Our walk started in Ravenstonedale, just outside the village. Clive, our leader, was a bit flummoxed as we had been dropped by the bus at the wrong spot, but we eventually started climbing up and over Knoutberry and Green Bell to Randy Gill Top--2035ft. Lunch was postponed until we came down out of the clouds into pastureland. Walked through a farm and onto a road, then a footpath which came out in the village of Newbiggin-on-Lune. Martin, Stephen, Hayden and myself took a short cut back to The Black Swan for tea and scones. The rest of the walkers were in the Kings Head, so we walked back to join them ready to catch the bus back to Thorns Hall.
Three new residents arrived last night to take the place of Doug, Ann and Janet. The entertainment last night was a programme of folk songs from a local duo--managed to stay awake, but it went on too long!
